A swiftshader is a graphical process unit driver for OpenGL. It was developed by Intel to speed up graphics processing in software on some machines. It can be used in games and other 3D graphics-intensive applications on some Intel HD 2000 and 3000 series integrated graphic chipsets. It is designed to work with 3D applications running under Windows Vista and Windows 7, but not for Linux or Windows 2000 (which use DirectX).Link: http://www.one2up. com/swiftshader_main.php Link: http://www.gamefront.com/files/2443768/Swiftshader_5.0.exe Link: http://gamespeak.com/swiftshader_for_pc_download_free(743).htm V-Ray 3 and 4 do not support the open source swiftshader driver for Linux and Windows XP or some older AMD and Intel graphics cards, so they must be used on their own with OpenGL 3+. There are ways to use the open source swiftshader driver on Linux systems with Mesa 3D, but at some point in April 2009, this was announced to be moving to the Intel graphics driver instead. Since Mesa 4.0 Swiftshader is not supported. The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4000 family uses the swiftshader driver for its rendering hardware by default; however, newer hardware using the GMA 500 series (and 600 series) also support swiftshader through their open source equivalents, which are incorporated into the Linux kernel and Grub 2 respectively. The GMA 500 series supports rendering via OpenGL via the swiftshader driver while the GMA 600 series supports it through direct rendering. The swiftshader driver was initially developed for use with Intel graphics cards, but it has been reported to work with AMD Radeon HD3200, HD4200, HD4330 and HD4570 graphics cards. It should work with any Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) using the Intel i915/i945/i965 chipsets.Swiftshader is an open source project developed by Intel to speed up graphics processing in software on their integrated graphic chipsets running Windows Vista or Windows 7. Though this software is currently supported and actively developed, it has not been officially released and is only available for download from the open-source community. The swiftshader project was started in 2006 by an Intel employee. It continued until early 2007, when Intel began providing access to an internal version of the driver, which was still in development. This version did not support DirectX 9.0 but did support OpenGL 2.1 and OpenGL ES 1.1, and worked with Windows Vista. On June 8, 2007 it was made available to developers through Intel's Open Source Technology Center (OTC) website using an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). cfa1e77820
